UP DSP''s killing: Guilty must be punished, says Mayawati

UP DSP''s killing: Guilty must be punished, says Mayawati New Delhi, Mar 8 : Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Friday said those who are responsible for the murder of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Zia-ul-Haq must be punished.

"Those who are guilty for his (Zia Ul Haq''s) murder must be punished. The CBI is working and action will be taken as soon as possible," Mayawati told media outside Parliament here.

Mayawati had earlier alleged that the Akhilesh Yadav-led Government in Uttar Pradesh exemplifies ''Goonda Raj'' and that there is an administration of Samajwadi Party (SP) goons in the state.

"The Samajwadi Party Government in Uttar Pradesh will complete an year on 15th of March. But in the one-year of rule so far, the government has failed in every aspect. There is no development and the law and order situation has deteriorated. In true sense, it is the rule of Samajwadi Party goons in Uttar Pradesh now," she said

Meanwhile, former Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya was named as an accused in the murder of Zia-ul-Haq on Thursday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), based on a complaint filed by Haq''s widow, Parveen Azad.

Raja Bhaiya has also been charged with criminal conspiracy after Parveen alleged that the former minister, an Independent legislator from Kunda, had conspired to kill her husband.

Officials said that with the charges converted to murder under Section 302 of the IPC, the arrest of Raja Bhaiya is now imminent, and added that the CBI team investigating the matter could interrogate him and then arrest him.

The CBI took charge of the case late on Wednesday, and began its probe today into the killing of Haq, Bilaspur village headman Nanhe Yadav and his brother Suresh Yadav.

Four others - Rohit Singh, Guddu Singh, Om Srivastava and Gulshan Yadav - have also been accused in the Haq murder case. Following his name figuring in the FIR filed by Parveen, Raja Bhaiya had quit the one-year-old Akhilesh Yadav ministry.

While Yadav has so far fended off questions on the likelihood of the arrest of Raja Bhaiya, he said the law will be allowed to take its own course.

He also said that the case has been handed over to the CBI and that it would act further on it.

Zia, posted as Circle Officer at Kunda town, was killed by a mob in Pratapgarh on Saturday when he had rushed there during the course of his duty after a village head was shot dead over a land dispute.

Eight policemen, including the Inspector at Kunda Police Station in Pratpgarh district, were also suspended for fleeing the spot when the DSP was being attacked. (ANI)
