CPI (M) criticizes govt. for granting Z security for Ambani

CPI (M) criticizes govt. for granting Z security for Ambani Many common people and some political leaders are criticizing the union government's decision to provide Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani with Z security.

The Ministry of Home Affairs recently granted Z category - the second highest level of state security - for Mr. Ambai, and designated the central force CRPF for the task. The CRPF will take over the billionaire's security from 25th of April.

The Z security has been approved nearly two months after Mr. Ambani received a threat letter from terrorist group Indian Mujahideen (IM).

But, the CPI (M) criticized the decision. CPI (M) leader Basudeb Acharia said, "It is unprecedented that at a time when such ghastly and gruesome incidents of rape are taking place. Z-plus category of security is given to a top corporate leader and the commoners [are] left in the lurch."

Another CPI (M) leader A. B. Bardhan said they would ask the government to retract the decision so that the central force could get back to their primary duty of protecting common people.

As per the National Crime Records Bureau's 2010 report, India had just 133 policemen for every 100,000 people.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Home Affairs is describing Mr. Ambani as a national asset and arguing that it is the government's duty to protect its industrialists.
