Yahoo acquires self destructing messaging app Blink

YahooWashington, May 14 : Yahoo has reportedly acquired Blink, which is a self destructing messaging app allowing users to share 'self-destructing' messages.

Blink was founded by ex-Googler Kevin Stephens and Michelle Norgan and now all seven team members, including the founders, will be joining Yahoo.

According to TechCrunch, users are able to text and share photos, videos, voice and more, with individuals or groups and messages' visibility could be controlled with a timer, so users can set how long they could be read or viewed after tapping.

Yahoo, Live Nation to stream live concert every day for entire year

Yahoo-Live-NationWashington, April 29 : Yahoo is reportedly teaming up with the concert ticketing company Live Nation in a bid to become the next big music venue.

According to The Verge, through the partnership, Yahoo plans to stream a live concert every day for an entire year, featuring what Yahoo marketing chief Kathy Savitt describes as the "world's hottest bands and musicians."

The company said that it intends to keep 1,200 of its live song recordings for months after the show is aired so that listeners can continue to stream them.

Users outside Europe worst hit in malware attack: Yahoo

According to the post updated on the Yahoo Help site, more than 2 million PCs could have been affected and chances of Yahoo users' personal data being compromised are high.

There are speculations that the attack may have actually begun four days prior to the estimated day (between December 27 to January 3), Cnet reported.

Yahoo’s Sports app allows users to create GIFs

The new feature allows sports fans to easily create GIFs from footage from any of the four leading sports leagues in the United States, the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB.  After creating the GIFs, users can share them right away or later on.

A user first scrub through footage from entire football games from the above-mentioned four sports leagues, and select any point in any entire game to "loop".

Under CEO Marissa Mayer, the company made a lot of big and small acquisitions of start-ups, revamped its logo, which sadly appears similar to the older version, but failed in the mobile category that is considered the most lucrative by rival tech giants.

According to Tech Crunch, by comparison, Google has five apps in the list, followed by Facebook, which has three apps featured in the chart and Twitter has two apps.

PeerCDN's technology delivers site resources like images, videos and downloads via a peer-to- peer network of people currently visiting a website using WebRTC, real-time communication technology, instead of using an additional software, TechCrunch reports.

This reduces some of the bandwidth costs of the website provider by letting visitors share the burden, the report added. (ANI)

Adam Mathes, director of mobile weather products management at Yahoo, said that the new app would offer immediate smart summary of weather information along with photography on the larger screen.

Announcing the availability of the app on the iPad, Mathes said, "We've created a spectacular new design that takes advantage of the larger screen. You'll immediately see a smart summary of weather data along with curated photography."

Yahoo to pay Katie Couric $6 mn per year as global anchor

The part-time job with the giant Internet portal will be Couric's secondary focus, while the veteran television journalist finishes out the second season of "Katie," her national talk show on ABC, Mashable reports.

Yahoo acquires video streaming startup QuikIOWashington, Dec 11 : Yahoo has acquired cross-platform video streaming app called QuikIO.

In a farewell note to its users, the company said that after December 31, the "FedEx of media files" would be shut down.

Yahoo spokesperson confirmed that three employees from QuikIO have joined Yahoo's video team in Sunnyvale.

The spokesperson added that they were excited to welcome the team to Yahoo, but did not comment further on the deal terms or future plans, Pandodaily reports.
