Government is planning to sell its entire stake in Scooters India

Heavy Industries Minister Praful Patel has informed that Scooters India may receive the status of a complete private organization. He has indicated that the government is planning to sell its entire stake in this firm. This may helpful to the government’s policy of outright sale of closed PSUs.

As per Mr. Patel, there are several other companies like Scooters India which may be considered for this purpose. The government needs to look after these firms to renovate and reorganize them. This can be done by adapting strategies like disinvestment or some outright sale etc. Patel has informed this on the sidelines of an event organized at AIMA.

He has also added that Scooters India Ltd (SIL) needs to get some fresh capital infusion to sustain in the market.

Tata Motors, Piaggio also in race for Scooters India

Scooters-IndiaIt has been a couple of days since the news of players like M&M and Atul Auto are looking to buy the ailing PSU Scooters India, but perhaps the other players in the three-wheelers segment, i. e. Tata motors and Piaggio are also very much interested in the deal.

M&M, Atul Auto eye controlling stake in Scooters IndiaA majority stake in the government operated Scooters India Ltd. has generated interest in the two major vehicle manufacturers in the Indian market namely Mahindra and Mahindra which produces utility vehicles and Atul Auto Ltd, which manufacture three-wheelers.

The government which owns about 95 5 percent of the shares in the company is planning to sell of about 74% of the stake. Scooters India is stated to have stopped its manufacture of two wheelers which it used to produce until 1997 under the trademark names of Lambretta and Vijai Super.
