Etihad may name its Indian partner this weekStock in Jet Airways gained as much as 6 per cent on Thursday after a senior Indian government source said that the carrier was the front-runner to win an investment from Gulf carrier Etihad Airways.

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad has long been in talks with Jet and Kingfisher Airlines, and is widely expected to name the Indian carrier in which it will pick a stake within a week.

The official source also said that national carrier Jet could initially sell 24 per cent stake to the Gulf carrier for between Rs 1,500 and 1,800 crore.

Shares of the company were trading 4.34 per cent higher at Rs. 580 on Tuesday morning. The shares have touched a high of Rs. 590 earlier on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). A media report in Mumbai suggested that Jet would approach the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) for permission to allow an equity investment by Etihad.

Air NZ, Etihad Look Forward to Code Share Agreement

Air New Zealand and Etihad have decided to enhance their cooperation, paving a way for code sharing agreement between two carriers. Process for getting the regulatory approvals for the same is being worked out at fast pace.

Air NZ has applied to the New Zealand government for permission to put its code on Etihad flights between Beijing and Abu Dhabi.

Both airlines have already been granted approval for code sharing on many routes between New Zealand and Australia, between Australia and Abu Dhabi, and beyond Abu Dhabi. An Auckland-Abu Dhabi trip under the Air NZ-Etihad code share would decline distance and enhance trade ties between two nations. The new services would go on sale from April 14 for travel from April 19, according to airline sources.

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has joined hands with world’s leading tour operator Arabian Smile Holidays in a bid to offer special deals to the visitors.

Both firms introduced a joint travel program ‘Abu Dhabi and Beyond by Arabian Smile Holidays’ for offering a range of facilities and discounts at various European and domestic routes.

The agreement has been signed in lines with Universal Travel Link & Services program that has been devised for offering the visitors with wide range of tour packages across various routes of Etihad. The airline will promote the renewable energy initiatives by highlighting its logo on their aircraft fleet during the month of April.

The new service, which is subject to government nod, will function every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from Abu Dhabi to El Nouzha airport in Alexandria.

Etihad to begin new US route in September

Etihad to begin new US route in SeptemberEtihad Airways has announced that its inaugural flight from Abu Dhabi to Chicago will take off on September 2.

The sources said that initially, there will be flights three times a week to the third-largest city in the US, and from October 1, flights on that route would be daily. The move is aimed at consolidating Etihad's network in North America.

The sources said that Etihad will operate an Airbus A340-500 wide body aircraft on the Abu Dhabi-Chicago route, with the capacity of 240 passengers.
