Google releases 'Google Fit' app for android to challenge Apple's 'Healthkit'

Google FitWashington, Oct 29 : Google's answer to Apple 's Healthkit has reportedly been launched today under the moniker " Google Fit" and is available for all android devices.

Google said that the app allows users to monitor their health goals and workout stats. It can also monitor walking, running and cycling when used as a standalone health tracker, reported The Verge.

Users can also set goals based on duration or the total number of steps involved and the app will keep one informed about the progress throughout each day. However, third-party fitness trackers and apps can also tap into Google's platform and input your health data.

The company acknowledged the attempted breach, saying that it was aware of "intermittent organized network attack" on its iCloud service.

According to News. com. au, the security warning follows a blog report by Greatfire. org, which monitors Chinese internet censorship, that says Beijing-backed hackers have been using "man-in-the-middle" attacks that dupe people into giving away their usernames and password and giving unauthorised access to their documents, photos and emails.

Apple began the sale of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at midnight for the first time in India, in line with the practice it follows elsewhere.

The launch in India came nearly a month after the global launch of the latest version of the iconic phones.

Both iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are available in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB variants. While iPhone 6 has 4.7-inch screen, the iPhone 6 Plus comes for 5.5-inch screen.

The iPhone maker was expected to unveil the two new devices during a press event on Thursday.

According to CNET, leaked images of the new iPad Air and iPad Mini were seen in an official user guide to Apple's iOS 8 operating system for iBooks in the iTunes Store.

Screenshots revealed the addition of a new feature-the Touch ID fingerprint scanner-to both the devices.

The leak also revealed that Burst Mode, which lets users take "rapid-fire" photos, will be available for the iPad Air 2, the report added. (ANI)

According to CNET, the report says that Chinese mobile carriers and e-commerce site Jingdong Mall are responsible for 20 million preorders of the iPhone units.

Jingdong Mall snagged 9.5 million preorders while China's three major mobile carriers, China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicorn accounted for 10 million of the preorders.

Following last Friday's online preorders, the new iPhones will land in stores across China starting this Friday, October 17. (ANI)

The company on Monday said that it had created a site for users to download the Bash update, CNET reports.

The announcement comes even as Apple last week said that majority of Mac users were safe from the security vulnerability known as the Bash or Shellshock bug.

An Apple spokesperson said in a statement to iMore earlier that the vast majority of OS X users were not at risk to recently reported Bash vulnerabilities.
