China stocks recover ground

China stocks recover ground Shanghai  - After the large losses of recent days, Chinese shares regained ground on Thursday.

The Shanghai Composite Index rose 126 points, or 4.52 per cent, to stand at 2911.58.

The Shenzhen Component Index also rose, gaining 438.43 points, or 3.91 per cent, to close at 11648.35, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

Experts were unsure whether the stock market, which lost around 20 per cent of its value in the previous two weeks, would stage a long-term recovery.

Investors are still seen as cautious. Analysts believe companies from the energy sector in particular such as PetroChina and Yangtze Power have a good chance of rising in value. (dpa)
