Boston condo fire leaves five hospitalized, damage of worth $3.5 million estimated

Boston-FireAuthorities have informed that five people were hospitalized after fire swept through a 10-story condominium in Boston's Back Bay, causing millions of dollars in damage.

The Boston Globe reported on Wednesday that four residents were taken to a hospital after being rescued from the building, along with one firefighter who suffered chest pains.

The fire at the Beacon Towers condominium building, which houses about 200 people in 69 units, drew hundreds of spectators.

Zubeidat Tsarmaeva, 42 said, "It looked like a volcano. There was fire coming from the seventh floor of the building, shooting out of the windows."

The Globe further reported that the fire was contained to a single unit on the seventh floor but there was related damage on surrounding floors, fire officials said. The structure did not have fire sprinklers because it was built before
1984, the year sprinkler systems became mandatory.

Fire department spokesman Steve MacDonald informed that the fire was fought by 180 of the 264 city firefighters on duty,
