Amid the accelerating transition towards environment-friendly mobility solutions, British electric bicycle (e-bike) specialist Volt has announced the release of its newest model – the Lite. The Volt Lite e-bike, as its name suggests, is a lightweight, no-frills, easy-to-use personal, environment-friendly mobility solution.

The Volt Lite features a frame design with a unique hinge mechanism. It is a folding e-bike, capable of folding in three places. It can fold in the middle of the frame, at the level of the handlebars, and at the headtube. After getting folded, the e-bike becomes extremely compact, which makes it convenient to be stored in a small place like under your work desk or to be carried to some other place in the back of your car. In folded position, it just needs a small corner of a garage. Moreover, the e-bike weighs just around 16 kg. So, hauling it around by hand will not be a big issue.

When it comes to tech specs, the Volt Lite e-bike comes equipped with a front hub electric motor (e-motor) and a seat post-integrated battery pack. Although the manufacturer’s official statement does not provide the specifics, some reports claim that the e-motor of the bike has a nominal output of 250 watts. The Samsung-branded battery is expected to deliver a range of around 50 miles (roughly 80.5 km) between two charges.

To complement the e-bike’s powertrain, there is a Gates CDX carbon belt drivetrain, which is said to be a low-maintenance. A three-speed Shimano Nexus geared hub is also there to allow the rider to tailor pedal assistance according to desired speed and available terrain.

James Metcalfe, founder of Volt, said in statement that the company’s latest product is the perfect model for daily commuters as well as adventurers.

Praising the new e-bike said, “The Volt Lite, which is our super light folding e-bike, is perfect for commuters and adventurers, while the Pulse SE builds upon this near-legendary model’s existing technical excellence, enabling riders the freedom to take the bike on or off-road.”

Assembled in the U.K., the Volt Lite e-bike is available with a price tag of £2,199 (approx. US$2,747). It is worth-mentioning here that Volt is one of the few manufacturers that have been registered under London’s Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) program. Thus, buyers of the new e-bike may be eligible for attractive discounts that the government is offering to accelerate the shift from ICEs to electric mobility solutions.
