American electric car pioneer Tesla Motors continues to expand the network of its Superchargers quickly across the world, with an impressive growth of 34 per cent year-over-year.

Public DC Fast Charging is really crucial for the mass adoption of EVs, especially in markets where the governments have set ambitious goals for shifting the automobile sector from conventional internal combustion engines (ICEs) to electric powertrains. Even market experts acknowledge the fact that lack of adequate charging infrastructure is one of the biggest hurdles on the way to mass adoption of EVs.

With its growing network of super fast chargers, Tesla has once again proved that it is the global leader not in the field of BEVs but also in public fast charging. Tesla China, the Chinese arm of the American EV giant, has just announced the opening of its 100th Supercharger in Beijing alone. The Chinese city of Jiangsu Nanjing has also received its 100th EV Supercharger.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if we listen about such milestones again in the coming months as Tesla continues to expand the network quickly. As per the EV giant’s Q2 2022 quarterly report, the Supercharger network enjoyed 34 per cent growth year-over-year.

The EV giant also revealed that there were just shy of 3,000 Supercharger stations across the world at the end of the second quarter last year. That number grew to nearly 4,000 at the end of second quarter of this year.

In a recently released statement, Tesla said, “The Supercharger business, which is part of Services & Other, is increasingly serving both Tesla and non-Tesla customers. To help accelerate the transition to sustainable energy even faster, we are excited to open up our global, fast-growing network to other EV customers.”

In certain parts of the world, including Europe, The American EV maker has started opening its Superchargers to EVs manufactured by other brands, even as not all Tesla EV owners support opening the super fast charging network to non-Tesla EVs. Generally, EV owners love to charge their vehicles at home, but low speeds of home EV chargers prompt them to use public DC fast chargers. However, there is a considerable lack of fast and reliable charging network, which is certainly holding back mass adoption of EVs. Tesla is, thus, working hard to install more and more chargers in key markets while also expanding in lesser known areas to plan for the future. Optimistically, other companies will follow suit.
