German electric bicycle (e-bike) brand Tern recently announced the launch of its latest product – the 2023 HSD Cargo Commuter E-Bike, which has been described as a utility-focused, environment-friendly electric mobility solution. The 2023 HSD Cargo Commuter E-Bike has a stiffer frame and a Bosch Performance Line e-motor for ensuring improved all-around performance and enhanced riding experience. According to information released by the manufacturer, the new e-bike has 39 per cent stiffer and stronger aluminium frame than the existing model, and it is 15-per cent stiffer at the top tube.

The stiffer and stronger frame should provide extra stability, specifically when it comes to carrying cargo on the luggage rack at the rear. The rear rack is capable of carrying luggage of up to 80 kg, which is great improvement from the previous model’s capacity of 60 kg. It also opens up the possibility of carrying a carrying a child or an adult, provided accessories for the same are available in the market. The total carrying capacity of the new e-bike is 180 kg, which is undoubtedly impressive. This becomes even more impressive when we consider the small and compact size of the e-bike.

Company executive Josh Hon said, “The HSD is for people who want the hauling capacity of a cargo bike, in a package that is much easier to ride and easier to handle. This new generation HSD adds improvements based on feedback we’ve collected from riders and our own team over the last 4 years. Plus, the new Bosch Smart System is a fantastic upgrade in pure power and also electronic smarts.”

Th frame of the 2023 HSD Cargo Commuter e-bike is foldable, and it rolls on 20-inch wheels. The foldable frame will not only allow quick and easy disassembly, but also enable the owner to store it in a small space.

For performance, the manufacturer has equipped it with a Bosch Performance Line, which marks a notable upgrade versus the existing model’s Bosch Active Line+ setup. The new e-bike produces 65 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque, which is enough to tackle even steep hills confidently. It also has the Bosch Smart System display that allows riders to access the bike’s settings, navigation, and riding data such as speed and available battery power. Built-in geolocation and anti-theft alarm system are some other notable technologies available with the new e-bike.

Prices for the new the 2023 Tern HSD Cargo Commuter E-Bike start at €4,699 (approximately $5,050). In the U.S. market, it is expected to be released sometime in or around the final quarter of this year.
