British car brand MINI has released the technical details of the upcoming 2024 Cooper Electric, a three-door hatchback that will be made available in two power variants. However, the aforementioned specifications of the upcoming EV aren’t exactly breaking news, as MINI CEO Stefanie Wurst had previously disclosed many of those specs during an interview with the British publication Autocar in March this year. Moreover, some photographers had also captured a completely undisguised prototype of the vehicle in Los Angeles.

The new 2024 MINI Cooper Electric, according to the company’s claims, is geared towards electric driving fun. It is available in two power versions, both of which will be sold as three-door hatchbacks. The company has also announced that the next generation of the MINI line-up will be launched with the upcoming Cooper EV.

The entry-level MINI Cooper E three-door hatchback has a single 135-kilowatt (181 horsepower) electric motor (e-motor) mounted on the front axle. For energy, it relies on a floor-mounted 40.7-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery that will reportedly enable an estimated driving range of up to 186 miles (approx. 300 km) between two charges.

The second version is the performance-oriented MINI Cooper SE, which comes equipped with a 160 kW (181 hp) motor on the front axle. This version’s battery pack is significantly bigger and more capable than that of the entry-level version. The 54.2-kWh battery offers a driving range of up to 249 miles (roughly 400 km) on a single charge.

The British car brand’s chief previously claimed that the minimum driving range of the upcoming Cooper will be 240 miles (roughly 386 km) on a single charge, but now the brand has made it clear that only the Cooper SE version will be able to deliver a range of more than 200 miles. Still, the entry-level variant’s aforementioned range is significantly much better than the previous generation’s range of 145 miles (roughly 233 km).

Co-developed by MINI in collaboration with Chinese manufacturer Great Wall Motor (GWM) and underpinned by an all-new EV platform known as Spotlight, the upcoming EV features three doors and offers space for up to four people. Production of the three-door hatchback will take place in China, most probably starting in November this year. Production of the new Mini Countryman at the brand’s Leipzig, Germany-based production plant is also scheduled to start at the same time.
