Dallas-based company, AT&T said on Tuesday that it is going to spend nearly $1 billion in expanding its operations as well as reshaping its existing business.

The investment will be made throughout this year and would cover not only the US but also the other parts of the globe as well.

The company also said that it will be expanding its offerings for the small business in the US, so that they are able to grow.

Post this investment, the total investment made by the telecommunication giant into the business-related networks, systems and service, will surpass the $4 billion mark. The company earlier made such a huge investment in 2006.

AT&T is giving so much of importance to the diversification of its business portfolio since it is required to keep pace with the changing business environment. It has moved over from voice communication to data.

The telecommunication market has undergone a whole paradigm shift. And with even the IT companies coming and joining the race, it becomes necessary for a company to keep pace with the changing scenario if its wants to survive.
