Asian chess: India A bag men's gold, Vietnam win women's title Kolkata, Dec 28 : India A men's team overwhelmed Sri Lanka to annex the gold in the Tata Steel Asian Team Chess Championship which concluded here Monday.

In the women's section, overnight leaders, Vietnam crushed tail-enders Nepal 4-0 to total 11 points and get the gold.

India A men's side maintained their all-win record to finish with 14 points, well ahead of Vietnam and Iran who collected 11 each.

The Indians - represented by Krishnan Sasikiran, Surya Sekhar Ganguly, Parimarjan Negi and Deepan Chakraborty - had little difficulty in snuffing out a feeble challenge from the islanders.

Vietnam took the silver on the basis of better tie-breaking points while Iran had to be content with the bronze.

Managing 8 points, India B took the fifth spot.

The India A women, who had got a bye in the final round, ended on 10 points to take the silver.

India B women went down to Iran 3-1 to spoil their chances of getting the silver. They ended on nine match points along with Iran and were placed fourth on the tie-break losing the bronze to Iran in this section.
