New Delhi, July 18 : Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today presented the Delhi budget proposals for 2014-15 in parliament, where he announced Rs. 260 crore for power subsidy providing Rs 0.80 to Rs 1.20 per unit to small power consumers whose monthly consumption does not exceed 400 units.

A subsidy of Rs. 1.20 per unit has been provided for electricity consumption between 0 to 200 units and subsidy of Rs. 0.80 per unit has been provided for consumption between 200 to 400 units.

Jaitley had also proposed no new taxes and more night shelters in the National Capital Territory (NCT).

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) yesterday announced a hike of 8.32 percent in power tariffs across Delhi and of 9.52 percent in areas falling under the jurisdiction of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

The capital is currently under president's rule and is going through major scarcity of power and water supply.

Earlier, in the union budget, Jaitley had allocated Rs 700 crore to Delhi to help overcome the problem of power transmission and water distribution system.

Jaitley had proposed Rs 500 crore for reform in the water sector while Rs 200 crore has been set aside for reform in the power sector.

Further considering health facilities, Jaitley proposed sanctioning of one multi speciality hospital this year.

Pension plan for senior citizens has been increased from 538 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 600 crore in the current fiscal year.

Jaitley also announced procurement of 1,380 semi-low floor DTC buses for better transport and construction of Renuka dam on priority to solve problem of inadequate water supply. (ANI)
