Afridi says rumours of altercations with Younis Khan baseless

Afridi says rumours of altercations with Younis Khan baselessKarachi, Oct. 28 : Pakistan cricket captain Younis Khan’s deputy, Shahid Afridi has rebuked reports about him having major differences with the skipper.

Speaking during a special program on a private television channel, Afridi said all such reports regarding him having issues with the captain were baseless and false.

When enquired about his much touted ‘closed door meeting’ with Khan last week, the flamboyant Pakistani all-rounder said the meeting was about problems being faced by the players and no personal matters were discussed then.

“The meeting was on the issues faced by the players,” The News quoted Afridi, as saying.

“We have decided that Captain and Vice Captain will jointly hear the problems of the players from now onwards,” he added.

Earlier, it was reported that Afridi, who will captain the team in two Twenty20 internationals against New Zealand next month, was rumored to have been one of the disruptive elements within the side, following which there were some disagreements with Younis.

“I am fed up of the thousand and one stories doing the rounds about me and Younis not getting along, my lust for captaincy and the like,” Afridi said.

“Younis and I go a long way as friends, almost 15 years. We won the world Twenty20 in June under Younis’ leadership, and there’s no reason why I should not back him for leading the team and the country to more laurels,” he added. (ANI)
