Yamaha, Honda report impressive growth in December salesYamaha Motor India and Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) enjoyed impressive growth in sales in December 2013, despite persistent sluggishness in the economy.

The Indian arm of Yamaha enjoyed a year-on-year increase of 36.88 per cent in total sales, 47,483 units in December 2012 to 64,997 units in December 2013. The company's domestic sales jumped 58.32 per cent to 39,777 units in December 2012, from 25,123 units in the corresponding month of the previous year.

The company's exports jumped 12.79 per cent to 25,220 units in the month under review. In December 2013, the company sold 22,360 units. During the entire 2013, the two-wheeler giant's total sales jumped 33.82 per cent, from 486,810 units to 651,487 units.

Roy Kurian, sales & marketing vice-president at Yamaha, said, "Despite industry travails, 2013 was an excellent year for us, and we are certainly pleased with our performance this year."

HMSI also reported an impressive year-on-year growth of 36.15 per cent in sales to 296,144 units in December 2013. In the corresponding month of the previous year, the company sold a total of 217,498 units.

The company's motorcycle sales grew 17.74 per cent, from 106,254 units in December 2012 to 125,109 units in December 2013. Scooter sales grew at an impressive rate of 53.74 per cent to settle at 171,035 units last month, from 111,244 units in corresponding month of the previous year.
