The Jonas Brothers released their third album “A Little Bit Longer” (Hollywood) on Thursday. Based on predictions being made from the first day of sales, it’s expected to have the third biggest opening week of the year. 

The sales of “Longer” through the close of business yesterday (Aug. 12) was poised at 201,000 and is expected to be in the 675,000 to 725,000 range when final results are reported a week from now.

Paris Hilton is being sued by Worldwide Entertainment Group Inc. not sufficiently promoting a movie she starred in the movie.

The
company filed a lawsuit in Miami last week, alleging that the
27-year-old owes them $75,000 for not fulfilling promotional
obligations of the movie “National Lampoon's Pledge This!”

The company alleged that the heiress didn't come through after being paid $1 million to star in and promote the 2006 comedy.

“Edwin A. Salt,” an espionage thriller slated for 2010 that was to star Tom Cruise, will now have Angelina Jolie in the lead role, according to Michael Fleming at Variety.

Jolie is close to signing a deal to play the lead, a CIA officer accused of being a Russian sleeper spy who has to live the life of a fugitive until she can prove her innocence.

Rolling Stone Magazine announced, on Monday, the reduction in the size of its publication starting with its October 30 issue in an effort to boost advertising and drooping newsstand sales.

It's oversized look, which distinguished it from similar themed magazines for over 30 years,will be done away with for a more traditional look with the size reduced to 8 x 10 7/8 format. The issue will be on sale October 17.

The Dark Knight ruled the US box office for a fourth weekend to become the third-biggest movie of all time after “Titanic” with $601 million and “Star Wars” with $461 million. It has maintained its lead at the box office.  

This weekend it raked in an additional $26 million in theatres bringing its total domestic gross to a whopping $441 million. It is expected to surpass the $461 million taken in by “Star Wars” sometime in the next week.

L’Oreal clarified on Thursday that it did not lighten Beyonce Knowles’ skin tone in a recent ad contrary to speculation.  

“It is categorically untrue that L’Oréal Paris altered Ms. Knowles’ features or skin-tone in the campaign for Feria hair color,” a rep for the company said in a statement.

“Beyonce Knowles has been a spokesperson for the L’Oréal Paris brand since 2001. We highly value our relationship with Ms. Knowles.”

Scarlett Johansson said that all the hullabaloo over her so-called “e-mail relationship” with Barack Obama was causing her a lot of embarrassment.

“It seemed to me to be like a product of extreme sexism, and I kept thinking to myself, ‘God, if this was just, like, Kal Penn or George Clooney or any of the other (Obama) surrogates or supporters ... there wouldn't be (any) question about it. Nobody would even talk about it,” she said.

Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” became the fastest movie in history to break the $400 million domestic sales mark on Monday, achieving the feat in just 18 days. Chrisopher Nolan-directed Batman movie just recorded its third straight weekend in the box office top spot, taking in an estimated $43.8 million.

“Shrek 2”, the previous record holder, the computer-animated storybook spoof reached the $400 million mark in 43 days back in 2004, according to box office watcher Media By Numbers.

Calvin Klein commercial for the new fragrance, in which actress Eva Mendes is featured topless flashing her nipples, has been banned in the United States, after the advertisement was found too raunchy for television networks. Now, available online on Calvin Klein's website, the commercial was composed for the Calvin Klein’s new perfume “Secret Obsession”.

On Thursday evening, two people were arrested on drugs charges after US rapper Snoop Dogg's tour bus was searched by Texas police. The incident happened just hours before the rapper was set to perform at Dallas' Superpages.com Center. Snoop is currently on tour with 311.

Initially the police in Dallas stopped the tour bus carrying rapper Snoop Dogg because of the vehicle's expired registration tags. But after cops got into the bus, they came out with two men, who were taken into custody and arrested on drug charges.

This year the nonfiction films like Edward S. Curtis’ “In the Land of the Head Hunters” (1914) and Nanette Burstein’s “American Teen” (2008) seemed to challenge the conventional definition of a documentary in the Seattle International Film Festival.

Though one might feel that the Curtis film is more “authentic” while Burstein’s account of modern high-school rituals seems a little slick, “American Teens” has revealing moments with such an authentic feel that the movie can generate an odd sense of nostalgia.
