US eyeing Kansas, Michigan prisons for Guantanamo inmatesWashington  - US officials are considering two inland prisons as possible sites to house terrorism suspects currently being held in a military prison at the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, The Washington Post reported Monday.

Authorities under US President Barack Obama, who has vowed to close the Guantanamo detention facility by 2010, are deciding whether to transfer some inmates from Cuba to the US mainland. Members of Congress have vehemently objected to moving terrorism prisoners to domestic locations.

Citing unnamed government officials, the Post reported that the military prison at Leavenworth, Kansas, was under consideration along with a prison in Standish, Michigan. (dpa)
