Teenagers’ Health suffers as they feel under pressure to remain online on social networks
Teenage is a sensitive period of development. During this stage, it is very important to know that how social media can be used wisely by adolescents. Also, how adolescents’ social media use is linked to factors like sleep quality and the risk of depression.
Study researchers think it will be better if families can levy the rule of no use of social media after sunset so that teenagers can stay away from social media and have good sleep in night. Students may feel pressure to be constantly available on social media.
The researchers said social media usage during night could be one of the reasons of sleep deprivation and also it will cause both emotional and physical worries. Study’s lead researcher Dr. Heather Clealand Woods said, “While overall social media use impacts on sleep quality, those who log on at night appear to be particularly affected”.
It is important to sleep in night, especially during teenage, as otherwise it can contribute to depression and anxiety. The researchers found decline in sleep quality by 13.5% due to use of social media by teenagers during night.
The researchers said constant need to be available online is what that makes teens feel tired and anxious to remain updated as to what is happening on the Internet. Clear evidence seems to be showing of a link between social media use and wellbeing, especially during adolescence.
