Techies belonging to SEZs may work from home

IT-EmployeesAs it was a much-awaited decision as far as the IT employees operating under the SEZ area are concerned, the government on Wednesday announced a relaxation in its policy for IT SEZs. Under the announced changes by the government, it has allowed the employees to carry out their duties even from home.

After several representations from the IT professionals, SEZ developers and other stakeholders, the government has finally decided to show firmness in its attitude.

In fact, it is also a partial exemption and will be applied to only in respect of employees that are temporarily de-capacitated and in respect of employees who are travelling, they may be permitted to work from home or outside the SEZ area, according to the government.

However, the ministry has made it very clear at the outset that the final export must take place from the premises of the unit in SEZ to avail the benefits offered. It may be noted here that several IT SEZ developers matching the likes of DLF, Unitech and Satyam (now Mahindra Satyam) have approached the government in the past to seek more time for the completion of the projects allotted.
