Tata Motors looking to launch mini-SUV

Tata Motors looking to launch mini-SUVIndian auto giant Tata Motors is mulling plans to launch new vehicles, including an all new mini SUV, to boost sales and expand its market share.

Tata Motors, which suffered a decline of 52 per cent in net profit in the October-December quarter, has plans to launch several new vehicles in the SUV space.

While rivals like Mahindra and Ford are cashing in on the soaring popularity of SUVs, Tata Motors is suffering declining sales and mounting losses.

Ashesh Dhar, head of UV product group at Tata Motors, said, "We definitely have lost a bit of ground but we will get back with new products. There are lots of projects in the pipeline and we want to be a significant player in the UV segment."

Mr. Dhar, a former Mahindra & Mahindra-executive who joined Tata Motors last year, added that the company was quite aggressive in UV segment, and was looking at building on it further.

Tata Motors' SUV will reportedly be a sub four-metre SUV, which will take on rival models like that of Mahindra's Quanto and Ford's soon-to-be-launched Eco Sport.

Mr. Dhar further said that Tata Motors could learn a lot from the group's British luxury brand JLR and use that knowledge to develop its new products.
