Durham (UK), Sep 3 : After England steamrolled India in the lone T20 match, Indian batsman Virat Kohli has said the team is fresh and eager to win the one-day series that stars here today.
Talking to mediapersons, Kohli said that the team is trying its best to perform well and added that there is no point in looking back.
"Every series is different and every match is different, we can''t play taking pressure because we are left with the one day series and we will do well. Everybody eagerly wants to do better in this series. So I think, we should concentrate on cricket and there is no point of thinking what all happened last month and there is no point of taking on the pressure of being the World Cup Champions. We will try to go in with fresh minds and will show a team effort in one day series and would try to win the match," said Kohli.
Kohli further said a few new players have joined the team and the team is banking on them as they are fresh and raring to go.
"New players have got chance to show their talent and have been given a fair chance in recent series. This has been happening for a while, so you can say it is a positive thing with fresh faces coming in because they have come with a mindset to do well and they have a time to prepare back home so, all of us are very fresh and eagerly want to perform in this one day series and hopefully try to win it," he added.
He also said that the players should focus on their performance rather than worry about things which are beyond their control.
"It is up to us to focus on cricket and not to focus on anything else because we need to be tide as a team and we need to have a strong bonding as a team and not worry about the things being said or expectations or pressure or anything like that and that is why we did very well in the world cup and that is why we are able to just be together as a unit and not worry about anything else. All of us have to do that in one day series and I can feel in the dressing room that bonding is there and we will try our level best to hold on to it," asserted Kohli.
The second match of the series will be played on Tuesday at the Rose Bowl, Southampton. (ANI)
