London, July 23 : South African sports personalities expressed their appreciation for cricketer Hashim Amla and golfer Ernie Els on Twitter after both performed brilliantly in their respective games on Sunday for the Proteas.
Proteas batsman Hashim Amla set the tone for national rapture by achieving the highest score and first triple century by a South African in Tests, as his team took a vice-like grip on the first Test match against England at The Oval.
On the other hand, golfer Els gradually secured his fourth Major and first in 10 years at The Open Championship at Royal Lytham after beating a faltering Adam Scott.
A storm of admiring tweets, from a broad range of respected names in South Africa sport, accompanied each man's achievement.
"Fantastic day for SA sport. First the Proteas doing so well & now Ernie Els winning another Open! Proudly South African!" Sports24 quoted Allister Coetzee's, coach of the ordinary-season log-topping Stormers in Super Rugby, tweet, as saying.
Mark Boucher, a former South African wicketkeeper, said: "So, so happy for Ernie! What a champion! How can anyone not love that guy and the way he is? A true South African Boet!"
Earlier Boucher tweeted: "Well played @amlahash!! Well deserved! A legend in the making. Looking forward to seeing our bowlers bowl on this now."
SuperSport critic and former Proteas batman H D Ackerman tweeted: "Ernie is finished, Smith can't play, Amla has a shocking technique and Kallis bats too slow. WAKE UP PEOPLE! These guys are legends."
Former Proteas bowling coach Vincent Barnes tweeted: "I'm at the airport and the Mighty Hash just got a standing ovation by boarding passengers. Amazing, legendary Hashim Amla." (ANI)
