London, Sep 21: England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Chief Executive David Collier has said that the pre-match altercation between England batsman Jonathan Trott and Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz was now a “closed matter”.
The incident occurred ahead of Monday’s fourth ODI at Lord’s, when the two players clashed in the nets and had to be separated by England batting coach Graham Gooch.
The altercation ended with Trott grabbing Riaz by the throat, and the prospect of an all-out fight was only averted by Gooch, who pushed Trott away before putting an arm around the Pakistani.
“There was an altercation. It was fairly minor in nature. It was regrettable, but it happened,” The Dawn quoted Collier, as saying.
“We are very fortunate that we have the experience of a neutral man in Jeff Crowe here, who dealt with it immediately. It is a closed matter,” he added.
The ugly scenes followed the ECB’s controversial decision to complete a tour that has lost all credibility after accusations of more corruption.
The England team and board is believed to be furious over Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ijaz Butt’s claim that England had ‘thrown’ the third ODI at The Oval. (ANI)
