London, June 23 : A mole fought its way to the pitch surface at the England team's base in Krakow, Poland, which led to some of the lads cracking jokes that perhaps the mole had been sent by the Italians ahead of the Euro Cup clash in Kiev on Sunday.
The players were left dumbstruck with the emergence of the not so welcome guest at the training ground.
The mole nearly gave security the slip as it scuttled around the stands for several minutes while England trained away from inquisitive eyes.
Captain Steven Gerrard, defender John Terry and other players from the squad could be seen laughing and joking with one another as the incident temporarily brought training to a standstill.
"Some of the lads were cracking gags that perhaps the mole had been sent by the Italians ahead of the crunch clash in Kiev tomorrow," The Daily Star quoted a source, as saying.
"The Polish word for mole is `kret' and it can also mean someone who infiltrates an organisation to get valuable information," the source added. (ANI)
