Submitted by Keval Sharma on Wed, 09/17/2008 - 13:35.Beijing - Chinese President Hu Jintao on Wednesday promised that his country would develop a "rich legacy" from holding the Paralympic Games, which closed with another spectacular ceremony in Beijing's "Bird's Nest" national stadium.
The 2008 Paralympics will "leave a rich legacy to the advancement of the well-being of people with a disability", Hu said in a speech at a lunch for foreign dignitaries attending the closing ceremony on Wednesday evening. Read more »
Pakistani Paralympics power lifter banned for two years for using steroids
Submitted by Rajiv Dhoot on Wed, 09/10/2008 - 11:39.New Delhi, Sep 10 : The Paralympics have been hit with its first doping offence, with Pakistani power lifter Naveed Ahmed Butt getting a two year ban for use of steroids.
The International Paralympics Committee (IPC) said on Tuesday that Butt failed a doping test at the Beijing Paralympics Games.
Butt, 37, tested positive for methandienone metabolites, a steroid, and received a two-year ban, the IPC said in a statement.
The urine sample was taken on September 4 in Beijing, two days before the opening ceremony. Read more »
