Agartala (Manipur) [India], Sept. 8 : Trinamool Congress (TMC) vice-president Mukul Roy and retired international footballer and an Arjuna award winner Prasun Banerjee, who at present is also a TMC MP, today felicitated gymnast Dipa Karmakar and her coach Bishweshwar Nandi.
Both the leaders from Kolkata along with the local leaders went to Dipa's house to felicitate her and her coach on behalf of the TMC during a small programme.
Agartala [India], Aug. 27 : India's gymnastics heroine Dipa Karmakar has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement of setting up a task force to prepare an action plan for the next three Olympic Games, and expressed hope that it would yield positive results and the country would get many medals in the upcoming Summer Games.
"I want to thank sir. I hope we get many medals in the coming Olympics. Results will surely be really good," Karmakar told ANI.
Agartala (Tripura), Aug. 23 : Rejecting the notion that foreign coaches are more likely to deliver results when it comes to local athletes, 'Produnova' specialist Dipa Karmakar's coach Bishweshwar Nandi asserted that Indian coaches' can do just as well, or even better, provided they are given proper facilities and infrastructure.
Talking about his plans for Dipa and other Indian gymnasts for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Nandi told ANI here on Tuesday that he is hoping for a much better sports policy, so that they can aim for at least ten medals.
Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Aug 15 : Indian trailblazer gymnast Dipa Karmakar's coach Bisweshwar Nandi revealed that before the vault finals of the Rio Olympics here, he had motivated her by saying that if former Russian gymnast Yelena Produnova could execute the dangerous artistic vault then so could she.
Speaking to ANI here after Dipa's performance, Nandi said that on the night before the finals, he put absolutely no pressure on her and assured her of getting her name in a top slot.
Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Aug 15 : Expressing disappointment at losing the Olympic medal by a whisker as she finished fourth in the women's individual vault final here at the Rio Olympics, Indian trailblazing gymnast Dipa Karmakar said that she was crestfallen but this has only made her more determined to strike gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Speaking to ANI here after her performance, Karmakar said that she was satisfied and happy by her performance as she had executed everything she had learnt in her training, but was heartbroken that she missed the medal by inches.
Agartala, Aug 8 : Gymnast Dipa Karmakar's parents in Tripura are overjoyed over their daughter making it to the Olympic final, the first Indian woman ever to do so, and are praying for her victory at the final.
Her father, a former Sports Authority of India coach in weightlifting, and mother will perform a special puja to pray for her victory on Tuesday, when Dipa turns 23.
"This exciting news of Dipa's qualification for the Olympic final has not only stirred us but will cheer every Indian, and especially the people of Tripura," Dipa's father Dulal Karmakar told IANS.
Kolkata, April 28 : Dipa Karmakar, who became the first Indian woman to qualify for gymnastics in the Olympics was the star attraction at the Calcutta Sports Journalists' Club (CSJC) awards here.
Dipa received the award as part of the club's diamond jubilee celebrations for her contribution to the sport. "Thank you for this award. This means a lot," Dipa said on Wednesday.
Her coach Bisheswar Nandi was also felicitated at the event.
