London, June 16 : Premier League club Stoke City is leading among a host of clubs interested in signing out of favor striker Michael Owen, who was released by Manchester United at the end of the last season.
Stoke manager Tony Pulis is a long-time admirer of the former England striker, who is fourth on the country's all-time scoring list with 40 goals in 89 appearances.
Everton has also shown an interest, but Owen's Liverpool connection might stop him from joining the Toffees.
Owen has played only 10 times since January 29 2011, so Stoke are weighing up the 32-year-old's fitness and wage demands before signing him.
"We're monitoring him, so it's a case of waiting to see what happens. We tried to find out what he was doing a couple of years ago. But nothing came of it," The Sun quoted Owen, as saying.
"Everyone knows Michael's pedigree and the fact he has performed with such distinction at the highest level, for club and country," he added.
Pulis would be looking for Owen's predatory instincts to maximise the goal threat of a side who found the net just 36 times last term, the worst record in the Premier League. (ANI)
