Sri Lanka call-up Vaas, Randiv as cover for injured Muralidaran, Mathews

Sri Lanka call-up Vaas, Randiv as cover for injured Muralidaran, MathewsColombo, Mar 31: Sri Lanka have called-up left-arm fast bowler Chaminda Vaas and all-rounder Suraj Randiv as cover for the injured duo Muttiah Muralidaran and Angelo Mathews for Saturday's World Cup final against India.

"Chaminda Vaas and Suraj Randiv will be included in the Sri Lankan squad for the World Cup final as cover for the injured Muralidaran and Mathews," Fox Sports quoted a Sri Lanka Cricket statement, as saying.

Vaas and Randiv are scheduled to arrive in Mumbai today.

Muralitharan has struggled throughout the tournament with hamstring, groin, knee and side injuries, but has still performed admirably with the ball.

Mathews picked up a right-side strain while fielding during Tuesday's semi-final win against New Zealand.

Vaas, who was part of the 1996 winning team, has not played any international cricket for almost two years and last appeared in an ODI in August 2008, while Randiv was part of the one-day tour of Australia last November.

Vaas and Randiv will only become eligible for selection if Muralitharan or Mathews are officially ruled out in time for the International Cricket Council's technical committee to approve a replacement. (ANI)
