Sydney, May 23 : For the majority of Australians playing in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the event has been nothing much to write home about.

Except for the stunning success of Shaun Marsh with the bat for Kings XI Punjab and, to a lesser extent, Doug Bollinger with the ball for the Chennai Super Kings, most of the other participating Australians have had a wretched time in India, reports The Age.

David Hussey, Cameron White and Daniel Christian were bought for a combined total of 3.4 million US dollars per season - 1.4 million dollars for Hussey, 1.1 million dollars for White and 900,000 dollars for Christian.

They are among the 20 most expensive players in this year's IPL, but all three have performed well below expectations.

Hussey has averaged just over 10 in his eight matches for Kings XI Punjab. White has finished his stint with an average of 26, while Christian averages 17.27 with the bat and 31.82 with the ball.

Fast bowler Brett Lee''s first 10 matches for the Kolkata Knight Riders produced only four wickets, albeit at a creditable economy rate of 7.07 runs per over, while Victorian batsman Aaron Finch - man of the match in Australia''s last T20 match - made just 47 runs in six matches for Delhi.

The struggles of Australians have not been confined to the players. Seven of the IPL''s 10 teams are coached by Australians, but of the four which have qualified for the finals - Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Mumbai - the only one led by an Australian is Kolkata, with first-year coach Dav Whatmore.

The coaches leaving India prematurely are now-retired Shane Warne (Rajasthan), Queensland''s Darren Lehmann (Deccan), Victoria''s Greg Shipperd (Delhi), Geoff Marsh (Pune), Geoff Lawson (Kochi) and Michael Bevan (Punjab). (ANI)
