Federer finds focus despite rain to power into Estoril semi-finals

Roger FedererEstoril, Portugal - Roger Federer stayed focused amid two annoying rain interruptions to reach the semi-finals of the Estoril Open on Friday 6-4, 6-1 over an upset-minded Portuguese challenger.

The win against 146th-ranked Frederico Gil propelled Federer into the weekend at his opening event on spring clay while working on a trial basis with past Spanish master Jose Higueras.  Read more »

Federer confirms he's ready for Davis Cup return in September

Estoril, Portugal  - Roger Federer's chances of coming on board Switzerland's Davis Cup team for September's World Group playoffs were boosted sharply on Wednesday.

A draw in London handed the former finalists a tie with Belgium in Switzerland, a geographic nicety which will not be much of a strain for the world number one.

Belgium won the pair's last meeting in Brussels in the 1999 quarter-finals.

The Swiss moved into playoff position at the weekend in Minsk with a 4-1 win over Belarus.  Read more »
