After Hickersberger quits, new Austrian coach within weeks

"We want to present a new coach within three or four weeks," Friedrich Stickler, head of the Austrian Football Association, told national broadcaster ORF.
Possible candidates are led by Austria's team manager Andreas Herzog, a former international who also played in Germany at Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen. Read more »

Austrian official dismisses US TV report of Euro threat

ABC reported on its website Friday that there was a significant, ongoing terrorist threat for the football championships, possibly to be carried out by Algerian terrorists. The report was based on four unnamed sources from different security, law enforcement and intelligence agencies. Read more »

During the game, minor skirmishes in the fan zone were quickly broken up by police, and fans also helped to calm down aggressive spectators, Vienna police spokesperson Walter Hladik said. Read more »
Italy's Barzagli undergoes knee surgery

Baden, Austria - Italy defender Andrea Barzagli on Friday underwent a short operation on his injured left knee that sidelines him for the rest of Euro 2008.
Barzagli suffered a meniscus injury during training on Thursday for the Sunday quarter-final with Spain. The arthroscopic surgery in a Vienna hospital was carried out by team doctor Andrea Ferretti. Read more »
