Kolkata : Indian ace Pankaj Advani kept himself in line for a double as he topped the group A table to storm into the last 32 of the senior National Snooker Championship at the Bengal Rowing Club on Wednesday.

Advani, who won the senior National billiards Saturday, carried his sublime form into his pet snooker event as he thrashed Akshay Kumar, Sukumar Barman, Ankit Kariwala and Assem Arora by identical scoreline of
3-0 to top group A table.

Meanwhile, Arantxa Sanchis of Maharashtra set up final clash against her state matre Meenal Thakur in the women's billiards event. (PTI)

Kolkata : Indian cue sports star Pankaj Advani on Thursday remarked Olympic achievement has become national "obsession" and urged the athletes to change their perception to excel in their respective disciplines.

"Our country is starved of Olympic medals and the government announces ridiculous incentives for an Olympic medal. I think our country is obsessed with Olympic medals," Advani said after making the semifinals of the senior national billiards beating Brijesh Damani 4-1 at the Bengal Rowing Club.

New Delhi - In the history of cue sports, he is already nothing short of a living legend and Pankaj Advani added some more sheen to his golden career by taking his world title count from 8 to 12 in a landmark year for himself and the sport.

The past 12 months clearly belonged to India's poster boy of cue sports after Advani took one title after another post his two-year snooker stint in the United Kingdom (UK).

Apart from Advani's remarkable journey of four world titles, the year will also be remembered for another champion in the making, China's teenage sensation Yan Bingtao.

Advani, who won the points format title earlier in the tournament, beat Englishman Wilson 1060-376. He had defeated Arun Agarwal in his opening match yesterday.

Advani, having started tentatively in the first match, registered the highest score in the Championship by an Indian so far.
