London, May. 26 : Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has said his former club Manchester United lacked 'a bit of an identity' under the tutelage of sacked manager Louis van Gaal.

Van Gaal was shown the door despite United won the FA Cup. This was believed to be due to the Old Trafford club's failure to qualify for the Champions League.

On the other hand, Jose Mourinho, the former Chelsea manager, is being widely considered as the favourite to succeed the Dutchman at the helm of the Old Trafford club.

Johannesburg, May. 24 : Manchester United have confirmed that the club have parted ways with manager Louis van Gaal, while a decision on his successor to be announced soon with Jose Mourinho being considered favourite to take charge at Old Trafford.

Van Gaal came under constant criticism amid United's failure to qualify for the Champions League. However, the Dutchman's hopes of staying at the helm for the final season of his three-year contract with the club ended despite winning the FA Cup.

London, May 20 : Ahead of the FA Cup final clash against Crystal Palace, embattled Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has said winning the silverware is essential for his side, not only for his own future but also for the sake of club's players and supporters.

Besides Community Shield title three years ago, United have not won the silverware since former manager Sir Alex Ferguson secured the Premier League title in his final season in charge in 2012-13.

United have made their place to the FA Cup final after claiming a 2-1 victory over Everton and will now meet Crystal palace in the summit showdown, but they are still trailing by four points from fourth-placed Manchester City in the Premier League.
