Srinagar, June 7 : The eighth National Deaf and Dumb Chess Championship, organized by the sports authorities of Jammu and Kashmir to provide the specially abled players a platform to boost their morales, began here on Tuesday.
The tournament is being held at the Government Women College in Srinagar under the auspices of the All India Chess Association of Deaf in collaboration with the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force.
Sudhir Kumar, one of the organizers of the tournament said, "There is lot of enthusiasm among the participants. Around 150 students are participating from 14 states across the country. This shows that how many people are interested in the tournament."
Ravneet Kaur, a participant, said, "I have come here from Punjab and I am representing Punjab team. I am participating for the first time in national chess championship and I am very happy for getting such a chance which will help me move forward keeping aside my disability."
Chess champions from 14 states participated in the tournament. The tournament concludes on Saturday. (ANI)
