London, Aug 9 : Mercedes team principle Rob Brawn has said no decision has been made yet over Michael Schumacher’s future
The seven-times Formula One champion is in the last year of his contract with Mercedes, and various pundits believe his contract might be increased by an year.
However, Brawn refused to make the picture clearer by saying no talks on this matter has been conducted yet.
Schumacher has scored just 29, which is 135 behind title leader Fernando Alonso and 48 shy of teammate Nico Rosberg.
Mercedes have dropped to fifth place in the constructors’ standings, well behind Red Bull, McLaren, Lotus and Ferrari.
“This is a very important decision for all the people involved. We won’t be rushed on it. When the time is appropriate we will announce what we are going to do,” The Sun quoted Brawn, as saying.
“I don’t want to increase speculation by commenting on where we are,” he added.
Brawn said Schumacher is “more than capable” of winning races if given a good car, as Rosberg did in China.
Outlining what the pair brings to the team, Brawn added: “They are very professional, very committed, have good attitude and speed. They work very well in the team and work well together as a pairing, which is not always easy with drivers.”
“I believe both are more than capable of winning races if we provide the equipment. That is all that you can ask from a driver,” he added. (ANI)
