Kumble, Srinath to contest for top posts in KSCA

Kumble, Srinath to contest for top posts in KSCABangalore, Nov 3 :Former Indian skipper Anil Kumble and ex-speedster Javagal Srinath will contest for the posts of president and secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in elections slated for Nov 21 here, the association's outgoing secretary and former Test cricketer Brijesh Patel announced Wednesday.

"Kumble and Srinath will contest for the posts of president and general secretary in the KSCA elections for the new term, 2010-13," Patel told reporters here.

About 4,000 members of the KSCA from diverse backgrounds will participate in the elections for the next four-year term.

"I always believed that cricketers are the right people to administer the game in any association. I had the honour of serving the KSCA as its honorary secretary for the past 12 years," Patel said a day after he decided to step aside and not to contest the ensuing elections.

Another former Indian skipper and Test cricketer, Rahul Dravid and former Test fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad will also be in the fray for two posts in the 24-member committee.

"I have decided to step aside and support the young distinguished Test cricketers Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath, Rahul Dravid and others who have pledged to take the KSCA forward in the coming challenging years," Patel said.

Endorsing Patel's views, Kumble said it was important for cricketers to be a part of an association committed to the cause and development of the game in the state and the country.

"I think it is the best time for me, Javagal, Rahul and Venkatesh Prasad to get involved with the administration of the game at this critical juncture for Karnataka cricket and a great responsibility will be bestowed upon us to deliver the goods," Kumble said.(IANS)
