Fourth Tamchon Football Tournament held in Delhi

Fourth Tamchon Football Tournament held in Delhi New Delhi, Dec. 13 : The 4th edition of the northeast Tamchon football was held here recently, with 16 football teams participating in the tournament.

Players from different parts of the northeast participated in the annual tournament that was held from December 4th to 11th.

The event was organized under the aegis of Tanghkul Naga Society, Delhi with support from various government and private agencies.

Its main objective was to promote peace, friendship, unity and interaction through games and sports amongst the people of the North East.

“Today, a large number of people have gathered. Our Tanghkul society in a small way is trying to build up as we go along with support from government and many well-wishers. We want to build bigger bonds with the people so that people here notice us and get to know more about our culture,” said Ameising Luikham, the Tanghkul Naga Society president.

The opening ceremony began with hundreds of north-eastern student artists performing different cultural and traditional dances.

While the Mizos showcased their world-renowned bamboo dance, the Nagas enthralled the audience with their traditional war dance.

“All Northeast societies have same culture and have same roots. So, we are close to each other and as a matter of fact to make bonds stronger such kinds of functions are very necessary,” said Homzai, a Mizo performer.

The main attraction on the opening day of the tournament was the match between Wung United and Siamsinpawlpi (SSPP).

The tournament provided an opportunity to the players to showcase their talent.

“Performing in Delhi is a great stage and the players can be selected to higher levels from here. And with the help of this tournament we expect one or two players from our team to be selected for the nationals,” said S. Lianlaluian, SSPP team coach.

“There are good players here and many of them can be scouted to different clubs where they can play for different leagues and tournaments,” said Kenny, a SSPP player. (ANI)
