London - Everton will be without influential midfielder Tim Cahill for the start of the new English Premier League season as the Australia international continues to recover from a broken metatarsal.
The 28-year-old has been struggling to overcome the injury for 18 months and manager David Moyes said he was still well short of fitness.
Cahill joins another Everton player, James Vaughan, as a long-term absentee.
"James Vaughan is coming on all the time," Moyes said.
"It is the same for Tim Cahill and I am not expecting him to be fit for the start of the season."
"He is going over to Australia to see the specialist for a last check but it is so far, so good." (dpa)
