‘Dropped’ Razzaq blames Pak team management for his unimpressive WC performance

‘Dropped’ Razzaq blames Pak team management for his unimpressive WC performance Karachi, April 7: Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has hit out at the team management following his omission from the national squad for the West Indies tour, saying that he was not utilised to his full competence in the recently-concluded World Cup.

Razzaq fell prey to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision of dropping seniors when the squad was announced, as faltering wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal was also ignored while former captain Younus Khan and fast bowler Umar Gul were rested following calls of injecting new talent in the team.

Although often dubbed as a match-winner, Razzaq failed to impress in the 2011 World Cup both with bat and ball as he claimed only six wickets managed to score just 104 runs in the tournament.

However, the veteran of 262 One-Day Internationals and 46 Tests believed that his statistics in the 2011 World Cup would have been much better if he was given ample opportunity to perform in the mega event.

“I’m deeply disappointed after being dropped for the tour,” The Express Tribune quoted Razzaq, as saying.

“I think I was not utilised well throughout the tournament. I played at number eight in most matches and I was also not given much chance with the ball,” he added.

Razzaq said that he was willing to bat at number three on numerous occasions, but the team management was not keen to give him a chance at that key position.

“I was ready to play at number three. I also decided to convince the team management to play me at this position in future assignments,” he pointed out.

“But what’s done is done. I’ll continue the hard work to regain my place in the team,” he added. (ANI)
