London, Aug 21: England batsman Ian Bell credits batting coach Graham Gooch for the team’s glut of run-scoring in the past one year.
Bell, Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen have all scored double-centuries in 2011 and top the 2011 Test run-scoring charts, which has helped England climb to the summit of Test cricket by toppling former ICC Test Championship table-toppers India.
“Goochie drives us anyway as a batting unit in terms of going big. But for me personally, when you see the other guys getting double hundreds it’s in your mind as well to go even bigger and bigger and bigger,” Sky Sports quoted Bell, as saying.
The 29-year-old further said that there is competitiveness in the team, which is healthy and constructive.
“When I started and used to look at the programme, there’d be four or five hundreds (for us) and with the opposition there’d be 20, 30, 40. It’s great for English cricket now to look at that and see we are stacking up some numbers now like opposition teams,” Bell said.
England currently leads the four-match Test series against India 3-0. (ANI)
