Melbourne, Dec 6 : Former England football star David beckhanm has said that he is still keen to play the game professionally, and added that he will be thinking about fresh options before or just after Christmas.
Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of a visit to a Melbourne High School, Beckham said his playing for L. A. Galaxy was not his last professional contract.
“No, no, it definitely won''t be my last professional contract. The next one I sign might be. But I have got a big decision to make now. I said I wanted to wait until the end of the season and it is the end of the season now, so I need to take some down time and decide what I need to do next,” said Beckham.
“I''d have to decide in the next few weeks, maybe before Christmas, maybe just after. But I''m going to take my time. It''s a big decision,” he added.
He also revealed that French club Paris St Germain was not the only team interested in recruiting him.
“No, I''ve had other offers, which is nice, especially when you''re 36. Some people would say towards the end of my career. I''ve got options and offers but I''m still a Galaxy player right now and that may not change,” Beckham said.
He further said: “I feel great physically and mentally. During the season I always said I need to wait until the end of the season to see how my body was and how I felt physically because last year I had the bad injury to my Achilles and it took a toll on my body. But I definitely feel good now.”
He also described his stint in the MLS as amazing.
“It''s been such a great experience on and off the field. Off the field, I accomplished everything I wanted to accomplish. I wanted to be part of a league that was growing, I wanted to see the interest grow and we''ve seen that in the last five years. I wanted to be successful on the field, whether it''s my last year or not, and we won the championship which was nice,” Beckham said.
He also said that he didn’t fancy being a coach or a manager, and would rather work or coach kids.
“Being a manager is one of those things that has never interested me. I enjoyed being part of that whole experience, but being on the sidelines was difficult,” he said.
He also compared the development of football as a sport in Australia to what was happening with the MLS in the United States.
“It''s exciting because you can see the growth. Its very similar with whats happening in the US, the leagues are growing and they''re both being talked about around the world which is important,” Beckham said. (ANI)
