Anelka becomes most expensive player in Chinese football

Anelka becomes most expensive player in Chinese football

London, Dec 10  : Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka has agreed to play for soccer club Shanghai Shenhua for 20 million pounds, making him the most expensive player in the history of Chinese football.
Currently, the highest paid player in the Chinese Super League (CSL) is Dario Leonardo Conca, with an annual salary of seven million dollars at Guangzhou Evergrande.
Anelka has trebled his wages after rejecting offers from Spurs, AC Milan and three American clubs.
He has been banished from Andre Villas-Boas' first-team squad after handing in a transfer request.
But that is the least of his worries after agreeing to a two-year contract with the Chinese Super League club worth 200,000 pounds-a-week, The Sun reports.
Anelka's departure will leave the Blues with a striking shortage next month, particularly with Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou heading for the African Nations Cup.
Villas-Boas said: "We still have Fernando Torres, Daniel Sturridge and Romelu Lukaku. So, that's enough." (ANI)
