Single Glass of Wine a day increases risk of Breast Cancer
Ladies please note, even having a single glass of wine a day increases risk of breast cancer for you. Researchers at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health in Boston said that not even moderate drinking can prevent health problems. The risk is especially high among young women.
Study researchers have affirmed that alcohol is considered to be one of the main risk factors for many cancers like colon, liver, larynx and esophagus. Most of the studies have focused on a high alcohol intake, this time the researchers decided to target a group of men and women who take alcohol in moderate, two glasses for men and three for women.
The researchers wanted to assess the influence of drinking patterns on the overall risk of cancer. The research published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) has found a link between alcohol and cancer among men who have smoked earlier in their lives, but there was no link for non-smokers.
In the case of women, the risk of cancer was linked to alcohol consumption, mainly breast cancer. The researchers pointed out that the link was present irrespective of the fact that they were smokers or not. The cancer risk increased with just one glass per day.
"People with a family history of cancer, especially women with a family history of breast cancer, should consider reducing their alcohol intake to below recommended limits, or even abstaining altogether, given the now well established link between moderate drinking and alcohol related cancers", said Dr. Jürgen Rehm, Director of Social and Epidemiological Research at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto.
