Singapore Air to halt direct flights to Newark, Los Angeles

Singapore Air to halt direct flights to Newark, Los AngelesSingapore Air has announced that it will stop operating direct flights from Singapore to Newark and Los Angeles in the US, which are the world's longest haul flights

Aviation passengers are increasing looking for cheap flights with budget carriers and thus the company has also decided to cut down on the in-flight amenities. There is also need for cheaper long flights as customers look for saving travelling costs.

The company announced on Wednesday that it has decided to eliminate two longest haul flights between Singapore and Newark and Los Angeles mainly to make huge savings on fuel costs. The two all business-class flights were launched in 2004 and are expected to be cancelled during the coming year.

Even as some passengers will face problems due to the closure of the direct service, but the airline is not able to sustain services during a global economic slowdown. Experts say that even as the flights on these routes are usually full, the airline is paying huge costs for fuel for flying on the long routes. The airline will either have to increase prices or halt services. Increasing prices might have an impact on demand and effect profitability and thus the company has decided to stop these services and focus on other routes.
