Rupesh pips Geet

Round of 16 game goes right down to the wire

A marathon four-hour game saw Rupesh Shah stun Geet Sethi 4-3 (84-48 85-16 90-35 43-63 0-73(73) 55-65 57-11) at the CCI Platinum Jubilee Open here on Tuesday.

The round of 16 game was a thriller. Though Rupesh managed to go 3-0 up, he knew it was far from over.

"I had seen Geet play on Monday and I know what he is capable of. So, I did have a strategy in mind. And I did execute it in the first two frames. Gave him no chance on the table at all," said Rupesh.

The sixth frame went right down to the wire with both players snooking each other with only the pink and the black left on the table. Geet finally pocketed the pink and took the frame.

"I think the nerves set in the seventh, but I knew that if I could stick on the table I could win it. That is what I did and got myself a lead of 40," said Rupesh.

The 35-year-old plays Pankaj Advani on Wednesday who, in contrast, took less than an hour to win against Manav Panchal 4-0 (76-7 97-15 119(84)-0 75(58)-0).
