Romans rediscover handiwork in financial crisis
Rome - Handiwork is making a big comeback in the Italian capital as the global financial crisis pinches pocketbooks, the La Repubblica newspaper reported. Romans are becoming increasingly attracted to "knitting cafes" organized each week by boutiques, cafes and places where the "in" crowd gathers, the report said.
There, over cups of cappuccino, lovers of elegance who want to cut a "bella figura" for less money learn the latest needlework tricks. With a little embroidery on the lapel or a set of new buttons, even last year's coat can be made fit for "la dolce vita" again. (dpa)
