Brussels- The European Union should re-open talks on a strategic deal with Russia which it froze following Russia's invasion of Georgia as soon as possible, the bloc's executive said Wednesday.

"It is the view of the (European) Commission that the next negotiating sessions should be scheduled now," a report from the Brussels-based body on the EU's relationship with Russia said.

Swine flu has claimed six lives till now. The increasing number of swine flu deaths has become an issue of concern for the government authorities.

Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday discussed with Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar various measures to tackle the spread of the deadly virus. Health Secretary Naresh Dayal was also present at the meeting.

Recently a four-year-old boy died of swine flu in Chennai. A 35-year-old ayurvedic doctor died of swine flu in Pune on Monday. The viral infection has affected more than 800 people till now.

EUR/USD - After the Surge

Yesterday saw a very strong move by the EURO, moving almost double its average (12) daily range. It also broke multiple short term resistance levels.

With more news out of the US today, it could be another volatile day.

A push above 1.4100 gives an initial target of 1.4140 followed by 1.4175 and 1.4250.

Support is at 1.4060, with a break giving a profit target of 1.4020 followed by 1.3985. There is little support after this till 1.3900, but the 1.3940 area is also significant.

Tel Aviv  - Israel was set to free 20 female Palestinian prisoners Friday in exchange for a sign-of-life video of an Israeli soldier held captive by Hamas for more than three years in the Gaza Strip.

The prisoners are slated to be taken to a West Bank checkpoint at the same time that Israel receives the one-minute video, reportedly shot recently, of Gilad Shalit.

The largest ever experiment of fish oil supplements has discovered no proof that they provide benefits for cognitive function in elderly.

A research looked into the effects of consuming omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid supplements over a period of two years on the cognitive function of partakers aged 70-80 years.

The number of individuals with cognitive disability is going up and it is approximated that by 2040 over 81 million people internationally will have dementia.

New York  - The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to discuss possible authorization of states to act against pirates off the Somali coasts, where piracy acts have increased against passenger ships and tankers, the United States said Monday.

A draft resolution written by Britain, the United States, Panama and France was submitted to the 15-nation council, which would authorize states to cooperate with Somalia's provisional government for an initial six months to fight acts of piracy.

Melbourne, Apr 3 : A heroic Aussie husband jumped on the back of a large crocodile to save his wife, who was clenched in the reptile's jaws, according to police officials.

The 36-year-old woman sustained deep puncture wounds in the attack, which took place at a popular tourist spot in the Litchfield National Park, 160 kilometers south of Darwin, the Northern Territory capital.

The woman was standing on the riverbank when the 2.5-metre crocodile lunged and dragged her into the water, the police said.

"The animal released the woman and swam into a concrete culvert," theage. com. au quoted police, as saying.

Bratislava - Slovakia is set to hold presidential elections on March 21, with a runoff election possible on April 4, Slovakian Parliament Speaker Pavol Paska said Thursday.

The speaker is responsible for determining the exact dates of the election, within a time period that is set by law. The runoff will pit the two candidates with the most first-round votes against each other, in case no one gets an absolute majority on March 21.

The latest opinion polls give incumbent President Ivan Gasparovic such a large lead that a runoff seems unlikely.
