Gowda fires another salvo at Yeddyurappa

New Delhi, Jan 11 : A day after hurling invectives at Karnataka Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa, former prime minister H. D. Deve Gowda Monday fired another shot at him, accusing him of colluding with Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise Limited (NICE) to deprive farmers of their agricultural lands.
Gowda made the allegation during an interaction with reporters in the Supreme Court premises after attending a hearing on a lawsuit of NICE for launch of the contempt of court proceedings against seven state government officials.

London, Dec 24 : Rapper Kanye West wants to design clothes for US President-elect Barack Obama.
The `Everything Iam' hitmaker revealed that he has a great fashion sense and would soon make a foray into fashion business.
"I could design something for Obama to go to the club in. But I don't know if I'm ready for suits and stuff," The Sun quoted Kanye, as saying.
"Fashion is just my love. It's something that I want to do for the rest of my life. I picked my own outfit out in kindergarten," he added.
RSS volunteer dies in a ‘mishap’ in Bhopal, family cries foul

Bhopal, Sep. 28 : Naresh Motwani, a volunteer activist of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), died in an accidental gunshot here on Monday.
According to the police, the deceased, Naresh Motwani (50), was cleaning a gun during the annual ritual of ''Shastra Puja'' (weapon worship). The bullet hit him on his neck. He was declared brought dead at the hospital.

Magdeburg, Germany - Gustav Schaefer, 20, drummer in the band Tokio Hotel, is recovering in hospital from appendicitis, the Uniklinikum Magdeburg hospital in Germany said Friday.
Schaefer came down with severe stomach pain at the start of the month and was admitted to the hospital in the eastern city of Magdeburg. The inflamed appendix was removed by surgeons.
David Jost, manager of the band, was quoted by the newspaper Bild saying Schaefer would need two weeks' rest to recover. The four-man German band has a worldwide teenage following. dpa
Eli Lilly beats out Bristol-Myers for ImClone

New York - Ending a bidding war, the US pharmaceutical concern Eli Lilly intends to take over the US biotech firm ImClone for 6.5 billion dollar, the two companies said Monday in new York.
ImClone shareholders must approve the offer.
Eli Lilly beat out its US rival Bristol-Myers Squibb, which had raised its offer to 5.4 billion dollars. Bristol-Myers Squibb already owns 17 per cent of ImClone and works closely with the company. (dpa)
Scientists put a new spin on electrons

Washington, April 16 : In the first demonstration of its kind, researchers at the University of British Columbia have controlled the spin of electrons using a ballistic technique.
For controlling the spin of electrons, the team bounced electrons through a microscopic channel of precisely constructed, two-dimensional layer of semiconductor.
It's the first time the intrinsic properties of a semiconductor, not external electric or magnetic fields, have been used to achieve the effect.

Mentha oil June contract dropped Rs 32.1 and settled at Rs 770.3 a kg hampered by heavy profit booking. Arrival pressure in spot markets also exerted pressure on prices. The contract made intraday low of Rs 770.3 a kg and high of Rs 797 a kg with the volume of 2208 and total open interest for the same contact was at 2868.Now support for the menthol is seen at 761.4 and below could see a test of 752.5. Resistance is now likely to be seen at 788.1, a move above could see prices testing 805.9.

Melbourne, May 5 : The sister-in-law of Joseph Fritzl, an Austrian man accused of holding his own daughter captive for 24 and fathering seven children with her, has described him as a “tyrant”.
The woman, who asked only to be identified as Christine R. to avoid public attention and throngs of journalists seeking interviews, said that Josef Fritzl had instilled a culture of fear at home due to which no one questioned of his daughter Elisabeth’s running away to join a cult, and abandoning three children on their doorstep.
Oz pro-euthanasia campaigner to launch lethal drug kit

Melbourne, March 30 : Aussie pro-euthanasia campaigner Dr. Philip Nitschke is contemplating launching lethal drug kits in the UK, which will enable people to check the strength of drugs they purchase to commit suicide.
He has revealed in his organisation Exit International's newsletter 'Quoting Deliverance, that the 35-pound kits would be released in May, to coincided with his planned tour of Britain.
According to The Observer, the heart of such kits are chemicals that change colour when mixed with lethal barbiturates.

New Delhi: According to the sources, pharma major Wockhardt Ltd has entered the final stages of buying US drug maker Morton Grove Pharmaceuticals Inc., which makes prescription liquid pharmaceutical products.
A related source told that Wockhardt is projected to declare the transaction shortly.
But the Mumbai-based pharma company declined to comment on the recent deal. “We do not respond to any speculations or rumours,” a company spokesperson replied.
The sources also said that the deal price is in the range of $50 million to $70 million.

Iran claims detecting virus aimed at nuclear establishment

Authorities in the Islamic Republic of Iran have said that it has detected the Duqu computer virus that is believed to be aimed at the country’s nuclear establishment.
Experts in the country believe that the Duqu computer virus is based on Stuxnet, which is a cyber programme unearthed last year and is also believed to be designed for sabotaging the nuclear efforts in the country.

Nokia Delays N-Gage Gaming Service Launch

Nokia has delayed the launch of its ‘N-gage’ gaming service for the third time due to postponements in software screening.
Nokia uncovered the service in August along with plans to make it accessible throughout the world in November.
But, during last month (November), the company declared that it was postponed till December. At this moment, it seems that N-Gage would be available in early 2008.
Nokia representative Kari Tuutti said, “We found one more issue which had to be solved before we could open the service.”
